Thermal pads are critical in transferring heat away from sensitive electronic components-such as CPUs, power ICs, MOSFETs, or LED arrays-to heat sinks or chassis. Ensure electrical insulation if mounting onto metal chassis or dealing with high voltages. Consider surface finish-thicker/softer pads bridge rougher surfaces, while thinner/harder pads are more efficient for precision-milled heatsinks.
In South African industry and tertiary labs, it's wise to check if the pad's continuous operating temperature matches local ambient spikes (e.g., +40 degreesC in plant rooms), as lower grade pads may degrade or outgas over time.
