Even when the TCP/IP layer is healthy, serial communication can fail due to incorrect baud, parity, data bits, or stop bits. Verify your device’s expected serial settings and configure the USR-TCP232-302 to match. Common defaults are 9600, 8, N, 1 but always confirm with your peripheral’s documentation.
Identify whether you’re using RS232 voltage levels or TTL (0-5V/0-3.3V) logic. Wiring mistakes between RS232 and TTL will not work and can damage interfaces without proper level shifting.

For TTL serial on 4-pin headers: TX, RX, 5V/3V3, GND. Always cross TX and RX (TX of module to RX of device and vice versa).

Use a USB-to-serial adapter and a terminal program (PuTTY, Tera Term) to verify the peripheral independently of the USR module. If the device responds directly to the PC, then the serial port settings and wiring on the peripheral are correct and the issue is likely with the USR module configuration or network transport.
USR modules support different operation modes: TCP client, TCP server, UDP. If your application expects the module to connect out to a server, set it to TCP client with the correct remote IP and port. For incoming connections, set TCP server mode and ensure firewall/NAT allows the chosen port. For local testing, a simple netcat server can verify packet flow:

If devices reset intermittently, check the power adapter’s output with a multimeter and replace with a known-good adapter.
