Many temperature sensors output a resistance or voltage that must be converted to temperature using manufacturer-provided formulas or lookup tables. For simple NTC thermistors, the Steinhart-Hart equation is widely used. For RTDs, the Callendar-Van Dusen equation is standard.
NTC Resistance-Temperature Approx (Beta Equation): T(K) = 1 / (1/T0 + (1/B) * ln(R/R0)), where: T0 = nominal temperature (K), R0 = nominal resistance (Ohm), B = Beta constant, R = measured resistance.
For example, an NTC with R0 = 10kOhm at 25 degreesC (298K) and B = 3950, measuring 6kOhm, the temperature is:
T(K) = 1 / (1/298 + (1/3950) * ln(6000/10000)) ~ 308K (35 degreesC)
