Estimate temperature rise across a pad using thermal resistance: Rth = thickness / (k * area), where thickness is in metres, k is thermal conductivity (W/mK) and area in m2. Temperature rise (Delta T) = Power (W) * Rth.
Example: a 5 W NVMe hot spot, a pad 1.0 mm thick (0.001 m), k = 6 W/mK, and pad area 20 mm x 10 mm = 0.0002 m2. Rth = 0.001 / (6 * 0.0002) = 0.833 K/W. Delta T = 5 * 0.833 = 4.17 K (approx).
