Before using any blinking LED, consult the product label or datasheet for forward voltage (Vf), typical operating current, and recommended supply voltage. The L-56BYD family typically contains models in red, green, yellow, or bi-colour variants; forward voltage often ranges from ~1.8V (red) to ~2.2V (green/yellow). Internal flashers often expect a supply in the 2.5V to 4.5V range if not designed for direct 5V use. If you cannot find a datasheet, treat the part as a standard LED with an integrated oscillator and design conservatively.

Because the L-56BYD contains an internal flasher, wiring is typically: supply -> series resistor -> LED -> ground. The series resistor limits current and protects the LED and its internal driver. Where R is in ohms, Vsup is the supply voltage (V), Vf is LED forward voltage (V), and I is desired current (A).

R = (5V - 1.8V) / 0.015 A = 213 ohms. Choose a standard 220 Ohm resistor (1/4W typically sufficient for this small current).

For battery operation (e.g., 2x AA = 3V), you may not need a resistor if Vf ~ 1.8V, but a small resistor (e.g., 47-100 Ohm) is recommended to protect against voltage variance and to limit current spikes from the internal flasher.
You can drive the L-56BYD from a microcontroller GPIO pin, but remember the LED already blinks internally. If you need to control when it blinks (on/off), switch the supply or use a transistor/MOSFET as a low-side switch. Avoid trying to change the internal blink timing from the MCU unless you remove the internal flasher and drive the LED directly.

Use a logic-level MOSFET (e.g., BSS138 or 2N7002) for low-voltage MCU work. Include a gate pull-down and a base/gate resistor (10k pull-down, 1k series for NPN base). This approach lets your MCU enable or disable the blinking LED while preserving the internal flash function.
