Align the heatsink and tighten to recommended torque or screw sequence for even pressure.
Suppose you are retrofitting an older embedded single-board computer with a new heatsink. The measured clearance between the SoC and heatsink base is 1.2mm. It's advisable to select a 1.5mm thermal pad, allowing minor compression for best contact. If the pad compresses by 20%, the final thickness is:
