Thermal fuses are usually selected for a temperature 10-20 degreesC above the thermostat/cut-out maximum, providing a backup in case of mechanical failure or stuck relay.
Calculate the current for the element using Ohm's law:
Current, I (A) = Power, P (W) / Voltage, V (V)
Example: For a 2300W, 230V geyser element: I = 2300 / 230 = 10A
Therefore, your thermal switch/fuse must be rated for at least 10A (preferably 15A or 20A for safety margin and reliability).
