Use basic power calculations to size fuses and select TVS parts. Ohm's Law and power formulas are essential when protecting USB peripherals and HATs.
A USB hub draws 0.8 A at 5 V. For overcurrent protection choose a fuse with a hold current slightly above 0.8 A. If using a polyfuse with hold 1 A and trip at 2 A, the polyfuse will protect against short pulses and reset after cooling. Calculate power at normal load: P = 5 V × 0.8 A = 4 W (this is the load power, not fuse dissipation).

Ensure the working voltage rating exceeds the maximum DC supply observed in your system.
