Note: Electrolytic capacitors are polarised. Double-check the '-' stripe matches the ground rail on your PCB or stripboard! Incorrect polarity leads to failure or even venting.
In a simple DC supply, you can estimate output ripple voltage (V) using:
V = Iload / (f x C)
For a 470uF (0.000470F) cap, 0.5A load, and 100Hz ripple:
V = 0.5 / (100 x 0.000470) ~ 10.6V ripple.
Add more capacitance in parallel or use bulkier caps for lower ripple!
